THE annual SPaDCO (Stuarts Point and District Community Organisation) FUNDAY was blessed with sunshine on Sunday 23 August as well as an awesome and talented army of members and volunteers setting up from 7am.
The SPaDCO ethos is aimed at maintaining a ‘Stronger Future Together’, and this motto was evident with local council and business support, and most importantly, facilitating the ongoing event that is designed to entertain, inform and bring the wider community together.
Organiser, Chris Parke, said, “We had such great success with the circus theme during the last two years, so we had loads of energy and input for FUNDAY 2026”.
The following day, Kempsey Shire Mayor Kinne Ring commented on the event.
“Here’s a few little things about Stuarts Point so you can see why our little villages like Stuarts Point absolutely amaze me,” she wrote.
“Yesterday I attended their family fun day organised by SPaDCO which saw HUNDREDS attend! A beautiful day, so many activities and a wonderful effort to all the volunteers and people who made the day happen. SPaDCO also has a project under the Resilience Canopy and are always trying to make their community more connected.”
With the stage equipment all set by 9am; bacon, eggs, and sausages sizzling, and the kids fishing off the foot bridge in the Newington College comp, the entertainment commenced with local band ‘Bluesville’ and stalls were already busy with an early throng of visitors.
The extensive program included displays and activities with the RFS, SES, Grassy Head Nursery, Stuarts Point Men’s Shed and Reptile Solutions with Stuart Johnston set up to welcome young and old at the boat ramp.
Centrally in the park all-day entertainment and events were highlighted with group games by the ‘Point to the Future’ kids, Kempsey Line Dancing, Zumba, Local Choir, Pottery, Bubbles, Stilt Walking and much, much more.
Copies of the recently published local anthology were available at the information table adjacent to the busy SPaDCO BBQ area.
Chairperson Mary-Lou Lewis offered thanks to the many supporters and sponsors.
The extended crew from SPaDCO is planning the return of the Art Show in 2027.
