TWO Nambucca Valley Radio (2NVR) 105.9 FM volunteers have received awards in recognition of their exceptional work.
The prestigious Hitching Post Award for Radio Excellence was presented to Phill Veness in recognition of his work showcasing all-Australian music sourced through AMRAP.
Mr Veness’s dedication to promoting local and national Australian artists has been a consistent highlight for many listeners.
The Golden Peg for exceptional operational and administrative dedication was awarded to Stephen Dwarte.
Mr Dwarte produces the weekly Community Noticeboard and monitors the station’s email inbox, providing essential support for internal communications.
Mr Veness and Mr Dwarte received their awards at the recent annual general meeting of 2NVR, during which the organisation elected its new committee for the year ahead.
The station saw a smooth transition of leadership, with returning officer Ion Newcombe declaring that a formal vote was unnecessary after exactly nine nominations were received for the nine available positions.
Donna Collins was elected as President. She takes over the role with the support of a refreshed committee that blends experienced hands with new faces.
Lizzie Wait steps into the position of Secretary, while Dave Pirani continues as Treasurer.
New members joining the committee are Lisa Zanderigo, Gary Biden and Linda Jerrison.
Returning members Paul Burns, Celeste Howden and Luise Pearson-Bernoth provide continuity and experience.
The uncontested election reflects strong community confidence and a clear desire for a collaborative approach as 2NVR continues its work as the Valley’s volunteer-run community radio station.
New President Donna Collins took the opportunity to thank members for their past contributions.
She highlighted her vision of the future to include: a Presenters’ Forum for developing long-term plans; to increase revenue through fundraising, sponsorship and grants; and to encourage youth to learn all aspects of community radio.
“We have our local public school presenting a program on Fridays 4-5pm, why not every school? Ms Collins asked.
“Let’s get our youth more involved.”
2NVR is always looking for new members and presenters. To join them, email admin@2nvr.org.au.
