NAMBUCCA Valley Council (NVC) has drafted a plan charting its commitment to creating a more accessible and inclusive community.
NVC Councillors resolved to place the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2027-2031 on public exhibition at the September Ordinary Meeting of Council. Community members can have their say on the draft plan until 5pm on 23 October 2026.
Mayor Gary Lee said the plan was ambitious and, importantly, it had been informed by consultation with people living with disability, their carers, families and the broader community.
“Our community is better and stronger when everyone can participate in it and contribute,” he said.
“People with disability are an important part of the Nambucca Valley community, and Council has an important role to play in ensuring our services, facilities, programs, and information are accessible and inclusive.
“This draft action plan sets out practical actions for Council to undertake to improve accessibility, promote positive attitudes towards people with disability, create more liveable communities, and to ensure Council’s systems and processes are accessible and inclusive.
“Disability inclusion is not simply about meeting legislative requirements. It is about removing barriers, listening to our community and creating a Nambucca Valley where everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in community life.
“I encourage everyone to take a look at the draft plan and share their feedback on it by 23 October 2026.”
