Stuarts Point and district heads to the polls

THE Stuarts Point and District Community Organisation (SPaDCO) partook in an age-old tradition on Saturday, 3 May, providing the iconic “democracy sausages” on Federal election day.

By 8am the queue to vote was building at the Stuarts Point Community Hall, despite inclement weather and extensive overnight showers.

Campaign volunteers gathered in rain gear under shelters to hand out ‘how to vote material’ to folks who had decided to do their democratic duty first thing in the morning.

While corflute brandishing political supporters were keen to get their message across, it was the sausage sizzle (complete with the extravagant option of coleslaw) that truly stole the show, with all ingredients having been sourced locally.

The tantalizing waft of BBQ onions never fails to entice, and most people stuck in the queue availed themselves of a warming “sausage sanga” as they chatted while the rain squalls and wind tormented.

Organising the SPaDCO crew of more than half a dozen members, Chris Parke told NOTA, “We were pretty unlucky with the rain which had been about most of the week though we managed to deliver most of the food we had prepared.”
