Landmark year for Nambucca River VIEW Club

PLANS are well underway for Nambucca River VIEW Club’s 50th birthday celebrations in August.

VIEW is a national women’s organisation and support network bringing women together in local communities to enjoy social activities, develop skills, make connections and participate in networking events while supporting and advocating for the education of young Australians in need.

The acronym stands for the “Voice, Interests and Education of Women”.

“We are really proud of our club’s 50 years of service to The Smith Family and excited to celebrate this landmark year,” said Club President Cynthia Guyenette.

“As we look forward with optimism to the future of our club, it is also an opportunity for a nostalgic glance back, remembering all the wonderful women who have been such an essential part of that history.”

In the 1960s, when the first VIEW Clubs were established by The Smith Family, most women worked at home and social contact was often rare.

As well as raising funds to support The Smith Family’s work of improving the lives of disadvantaged Australian children, there was also a focus on building friendships and support within the clubs.

Though times have changed and women have now made their mark in every area of our country’s life, the enjoyment of coming together with purpose and in friendship remains for members.

Over the past year alone, The Smith Family provided support to 178,430 children, with VIEW assisting through student sponsorships.

Locally, the Nambucca River VIEW has been supported this year by Council funding, used to purchase a marquee, display table and signage.

“We are still very keen to spread awareness of VIEW within our community and to encourage more women to join with us to keep our club strong into the future,” Cynthia said.

“These items will enable us to get out and about to chat with more local women about the value of membership.”

Cynthia also expressed gratitude to all the speakers who have attended VIEW meetings over the years to share their knowledge and experience.

“From authors to fire fighters, army veterans to fitness instructors, women’s interests are more varied than ever before,” she said.

“Women have come a long way since those early days in the 60s.”
