Macksville Library set for major upgrade and completed by mid-February

MACKSVILLE Library’s refurbishment is now underway with the popular community hub expected to reopen in mid-February 2026.

The renovation is being delivered through a $346,224 grant from the State Library of New South Wales, supporting Council’s commitment to improving community infrastructure and enhancing wellbeing.

It will feature revitalised spaces and a new sound-proof meeting room.

Acting General Manager Kristian Enevoldson said the upgrade would deliver long-term benefits for the Macksville community.

“Macksville Library is a popular community hub and we are looking forward to it receiving a major upgrade that will benefit our community,” he said.

“Key among our priorities when designing the refurbished spaces was meeting the needs of young people.”

The upgraded library will include a dedicated youth area featuring bean bags and shelving for graphic novels and other youth-focused materials.

The children’s section will be transformed with Colosseum-style circular seating and lower shelving to improve visibility and allow more natural light to flow through the space.

A new sound-proof meeting room will also be added, expanding opportunities for community meetings, small events and group activities.

The refurbishment will improve natural lighting throughout the library, update all furniture and install new floor coverings.

Importantly, the new furnishings will be on wheels, allowing the space to be easily reconfigured to suit future events, workshops and author talks.

While Macksville Library is closed until mid-February 2026, borrowers can still return items via the library’s external return chute.

Library members wishing to borrow new materials can do so at Nambucca Library, which remains open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5pm and Saturdays from 9.30am to 12pm.

The refurbishment aligns with Council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan objectives to promote connectedness, learning and community wellbeing.

Council’s goal is to ensure Macksville Library continues to serve as a welcoming, flexible and modern space for all ages.
