THE true spirit of Christmas was on full display in Macksville this holiday season when members of the Nambucca Macksville Evening VIEW Club shared a heartfelt gesture of kindness with local Meals on Wheels clients.
VIEW Club President Anne Sutton and Secretary Michelle Walker had the privilege of meeting Stacey Munro and Kim Peterkin from Lifetime Connect to hand over 150 handmade gifts.
Each gift was placed on a Meals on Wheels tray delivered to clients on Christmas Day adding a personal and uplifting touch at Christmas.
Although the initiative was not an official VIEW Club event, many VIEW ladies enthusiastically took part.
Over several weeks they gathered buttons, crocheted delicate hearts to hang on Christmas trees, created much-loved “worry worms” that have already brought smiles across the community, and prepared beautifully wrapped little boxes.
Each box included a thoughtful message to remind recipients of how special and loved they are.
Adding to the festive cheer, one of the ladies crafted miniature Santa hats containing chocolate treats.
Staff at Lifetime Connect were both delighted and deeply moved by the generosity shown.
“The ladies at Lifetime Connect were so excited and astounded by the kindness and care shown by our community,” View’s Michelle Walker told News Of The Area.
The gift handover comes at a significant time for Lifetime Connect Food Services, which is celebrating more than 50 years of supporting the Nambucca Valley.
The organisation was founded in 1972 when it began as a small volunteer-run community service group focused on helping older residents.
Its very first service was the Meals on Wheels program supported by Macksville and District Hospital.
Volunteers delivered meals on Christmas Day to older community members who were not able to be with family.
More than five decades later that same spirit of care and connection continues.
Lifetime Connect’s volunteers remain a vital part of its successful food delivery service, providing not only delicious and nutritious meals, but also friendly contact and reassurance.
People interested in supporting Meals on Wheels are encouraged to contact Lifetime Connect on (02) 6568 2522 or email mail@lifetimeconnect.org.au.
The Nambucca Macksville Evening VIEW Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Macksville Ex-Services Club at 5pm.
The club will resume meetings on 4 February 2026.
