Wendy Campbell celebrates 50 years in business in Nambucca Valley

WENDY Campbell, owner of Wendy’s Coiffure in Nambucca Heads, has reached the remarkable milestone of 50 years in business.

Established on 4 December 1975, Wendy’s Coiffure has been a constant presence in the town for half a century.

Wendy opened her salon at just 21 years of age, a young country girl from Bowraville, a vision, and the courage to back herself at a time when female business owners were far less common.

Over the past five decades Wendy has built a successful and enduring business and lived a full life alongside it.

Member for Oxley Michael Kemp MP provided a recognition statement in parliament, “Congratulations to Wendy and her team on this incredible milestone and five decades of great hairdos in the Nambuka Valley.”

“Some of Wendy’s very first clients still sit in her chair today, which is a true testament to the genuine connection she’s built with her community.

“She’s shaped the careers of many who started their journeys under her guidance.

“Today, her daughter MaryJane proudly works alongside her, following her mum’s footsteps and continuing the legacy with over 16 years in the chair herself.”

Wendy has worked full-time for the entire 50 years and is still working today.

Through all the seasons of life, being young and single, marrying, divorcing, raising children, and navigating the many personal challenges that come with those chapters, Wendy never closed her doors.

Many businesses struggle to survive the personal challenges life can bring.

Wendy’s Coiffure defied the odds, thriving as its owner raised three children and returned to work within eight to 12 weeks of each birth while continuing to run the business.

Wendy’s impact extends far beyond haircuts and styling.

Over the years, she has trained 10 apprentices, employed many staff members, and supported numerous work experience students, providing guidance, skills, and opportunities to generations of young people in the community.

For many Wendy’s salon was their first workplace, their first mentor, and the place where confidence and careers began.

Nambucca Heads celebrates not just a business anniversary, but 50 years of dedication, resilience, and quiet leadership.
