NAMBUCCA Valley residents are being invited to take part in a series of free Creative Recovery workshops in the lead up to the Open Streets Festival Parade on 14 February.

Delivered by Arts Mid North Coast, the wearable art workshops are designed to bring people together through shared creativity, storytelling and community connection.

The workshops will be run in Macksville, Nambucca Heads and Bowraville in late January and early February, culminating in the community parade.

Participants are invited to co-create wearable artworks inspired by the theme Our River, Our Coast, Our Community. No prior experience is needed, and all materials, refreshments and support are provided.

The workshops are open to all ages, with children under 12 welcome when accompanied by an adult.

The Creative Recovery workshops offer a relaxed and inclusive space for community members to reconnect, reflect and create together, while celebrating the natural environment and shared strengths of the Nambucca Valley.

The program recognises the important role creativity can play in supporting mental health, wellbeing and resilience, particularly for communities impacted by recent natural disasters and ongoing recovery.

Local artists Hannah Date and Sharyn Brady will facilitate the sessions, bringing a trauma-informed and community-led approach that encourages participation at every level.

The workshops will also be supported by the Australian Red Cross Nambucca Valley team, who will attend sessions to share information and resources around disaster recovery and preparedness.

The wearable artworks created during the workshops will come together as part of the Nambucca Valley Open Streets Festival Parade, forming a powerful visual celebration of connection, recovery and community pride.

Workshop sessions will be held on:

—Thursday 29 January, 12–3pm at TAFE Macksville

—Friday 30 January, 9am–12pm at Nambucca Community and Art Centre

—Monday 2 February, 10am–2.30pm at Nambucca Valley Phoenix, Bowraville

The workshops are free to attend, with registrations encouraged via artsmidnorthcoast.com or by calling 6658 9400.

The program is supported by Australia Post Community Grants, Nambucca Valley Council and the NSW Government, and delivered in partnership with TAFE NSW and the Australian Red Cross.
