A SMALL-BATCH specialty roastery tucked away in Grassy Head is currently celebrating a remarkable run of recognition on the world stage.

The Painted Blue Coffee Roasters team, headed up by Dan Klingsporn and Charelle Harkins, recently earned multiple medals at the ‘Golden Bean World Series’, the world’s largest coffee‑roasting competition, where leading roasters from Australasia, the Americas and East Asia come together to benchmark the very best in Espresso, Milk‑Based and Filter categories.

“All three medals were awarded for our Costa Rican Sunrise Swell, with notes of mango, passionfruit and dark chocolate,” Charelle said.

“We chose to showcase this beautiful ‘microlot’ across all three categories because it represents our summer season here on the Mid North Coast and reflects the way people enjoy our coffee every day.”

These achievements build on a growing history of success for Painted Blue, including a Silver Medal in the Espresso category at the 2024 Golden Bean World Series for their single‑origin Sumatra.

“Competing alongside large-scale international roasters has only reinforced our confidence that Painted Blue with its small footprint and small batches, when paired with precision and passion, a big impact can be created,” Dan and Charelle said.
