AN impressive series of results has put Bowraville Central School’s cattle team firmly in the spotlight, with standout student Lily Kennedy earning selection to compete at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Lily was chosen as one of just ten paraders to represent Group 2 in the prestigious F002 Paraders Class following a strong performance at the Wingham Show.
Competing against more than 30 paraders aged between 13 and 25 years, Lily demonstrated outstanding skill, confidence and composure in the ring while leading the school’s Droughtmaster heifer, Breffni Quinn, securing her place on the Sydney stage.
While Lily’s achievement was a highlight, the entire Bowraville Central School team delivered strong performances across multiple classes.
In the Junior Paraders events, Thea Heather placed second in the Under 13 category.
The Under 15 Paraders class saw Lily Kennedy take first place, Lailana Heather secure second and Amarli Whit place fourth.
The school’s cattle also performed exceptionally well in the stud classes, with their heifers awarded both Champion Junior Heifer and Champion Senior Heifer.
In the commercial classes, the team’s steer and heifer placed third and sixth respectively.
These results build on an already strong start to the show season, following the team’s success at the Nabiac Show the previous weekend, where Bowraville Central School was awarded Champion School and received the Gibson Family Perpetual Trophy.
Bowraville Central School Agriculture Teacher Lori Wilson said the results reflected the hard work and commitment of the students.
“Our students meet two afternoons each week outside of school hours to work with the cattle, training and practising their skills in the ring,” Ms Wilson said.
“They constantly support one another and provide positive and constructive feedback, which has really helped them grow in both skill and confidence.”
Bowraville Central School’s Executive Principal David Taylor expressed the strong pride the school community has in their cattle team.
“’We are very proud of our whole team and their significant improvement over the last few years,” Mr Taylor told News Of The Area.
“I would also like to acknowledge the commitment and effort of teacher Lori Wilson and farm assistant Sharon Atkins who have raised the bar and challenged the cattle team to continue to improve. Good luck Lily, we are proud of you.”
The team will now turn its attention to the Sydney Royal Easter Show, where Lily will represent Group 2, with the Nambucca Valley cheering her on.
