DEAR News Of The Area,
While Pauline Hanson’s One Nation is the popular flavour in the polling lately, the mainstream media seem unable to ask any of the obvious questions.
Both are concerning.
After 30 years in Federal politics, Hanson’s only notable contributions were both publicity stunts; one involving the Australian flag, the other a burqa.
Her attendance and participation has been dismal, she has done little to hold any government to account, and repeatedly voted against wage rises and changes which could alleviate some of the cost of living pressures and inequities in society, despite her pretense of fighting for the downtrodden Aussie battler.
With the decimation of the Liberal Coalition, thanks to the influential Murdoch media’s constant and destructive push to the right, Hanson has now been given a massive ‘leg up’ from Gina Rinehart and we have this ludicrous proposition being touted by commentators that One Nation could be a viable opposition party and Pauline an alternative PM!
While One Nation has become an easy backdoor into politics for newcomers soon disenfranchised and out-of-pocket, it has no representative democratic caucus for policy-making and doesn’t look like it’s about to.
Long-time minder James Ashby has gamed the system to not only increase Hanson’s power and influence but rakes in the growing election dollars to further support her long-running divisive grievance campaign.
Despite a washed-up cowboy-hatted Barnaby Joyce spruiking empty one-liners, Hanson still remains leader for life with sole rights for choosing her successor.
Meanwhile, the deserving players; the Greens and the crossbench independents who have made an intelligent contribution and been consistent in holding successive governments to account have been given little recognition or credit.
While Hanson was always the natural legacy of John Howard’s pushback against multiculturalism and Indigenous rights, Howard loved to claim – while they were voting for him – that Australian voters were intelligent.
If that is true, then something doesn’t add up here.
Regards,
Dave Wood,
Boambee East.
