PLANNING for the future of Scotts Head has reached a significant milestone, with the next stage of the Scotts Head Master Plan now open and residents invited to help refine the vision for the village’s foreshore and public spaces.
Nambucca Valley Council acting general manager David Moloney said the draft master plan elements had been developed from the feedback received during the first round of consultation, which ran from April to mid-May.
“We were pleased with the great response the community provided during the first consultation phase, with 322 respondents to the survey and about 100 people attending the community drop-in event,” he said.
“We’re asking people to stay involved, to read the project’s background paper, which shares draft elements of the master plan including potential improvements or changes to the town’s foreshore areas and public spaces.
“Council and our project partner, Reflections Holidays, received feedback on existing facilities and open space and have received many ideas for future improvements with short-term priorities being the headland space, weed mitigation and bush regeneration.
“The next stage is exciting because we can build on these ideas and work through potential solutions together, so keep participating during the project’s second phase.”
The first phase of consultation identified a number of priorities that residents considered important for Scotts Head’s future.
Among the highest short-term priorities were improvements to the headland area, weed mitigation and bush regeneration, public toilets, additional parking and better management of dog areas.
Residents also highlighted the need to upgrade or renew the children’s playground, improve the Recreation Hut and community spaces, complete the skate park and youth space, enhance street-side walking infrastructure and develop a coastal walking trail.
Long-term aspirations identified through the consultation included further improvements to walking infrastructure and community spaces, continued environmental restoration and protection works, expansion of parking and the development of an inter-area bike path.
The community also expressed support for returning and upgrading the Adin Street Reserve, maintaining public toilet facilities and managing or prohibiting four-wheel drives on beaches.
Scotts Head residents and visitors are being encouraged to review the Scotts Head Master Plan Background Paper online and provide feedback through the accompanying survey.
An in-person drop-in session will also be held at the Scotts Head Recreation Hut on Saturday 27 June 2026 from 10am to 1pm.
Reflections Holidays Chief Executive Officer Nick Baker welcomed the commencement of the second phase of consultation.
“The feedback gathered from locals through this process will help to ensure that this beautiful area is nurtured for future generations to enjoy,” he said.
Community feedback on the Background Paper will remain open until 11 July 2026.
Council hopes the next stage of consultation will build on the strong response already received and ensure the master plan reflects the aspirations of the Scotts Head community.
