FIREFIGHTERS extinguished a bushfire near the Lions Lookout in Nambucca Heads after multiple triple-zero calls from the community on Monday evening.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) and the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) were called to the blaze at about 7:40pm.
Two fire trucks and up to 12 firefighters from the Nambucca Heads Fire Station attended, assisted by four trucks and about 20 RFS volunteers.
NSW Police were also on the scene.
An FRNSW spokesperson told News Of The Area a fire truck was sent to the Nambucca Heads Surf Life Saving Club as a precaution, though no properties were under threat.
Nambucca Heads Fire and Rescue Station Commander Ricky Forbes said the fire was “medium-sized” when crews arrived.
Crews spent 45 minutes controlling the blaze that spanned approximately two hectares.
“Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and undertook further hazard reduction work to make the area safe,” the spokesperson said.
Following a series of similar incidents around the same time last year, Mr Forbes said crews decided to “take advantage of favourable weather conditions and undertake hazard reduction to help prevent any future incidents” ahead of the upcoming bushfire season.
“Crews remained on scene until just after midnight.
There were no reports of any injuries or damage to property apart from the bush and grass affected.”
Nambucca Heads resident Madeline Pearce was nearby during the fire.
“It was very unexpected and moved very quickly up the mountain to the lookout,” she said. “I saw three fire trucks arrive within 10 to 15 minutes.”
The Alofa Sands Surf Club Cafe opened for business as usual on Tuesday morning, posting to social media, “Thank you to Fire and Rescue and the RFS who spent their night protecting us all.”
Mr Forbes thanked the RFS volunteers and police for their assistance in managing the incident.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Police are now investigating and encouraging members of the public to come forward with any information or footage related to the incident.
