COUNCILLOR David Jones is Nambucca Valley’s new Deputy Mayor, the third in as many years.
After 10 years on the council, Jones sees ‘excellent opportunities’ for the region.
“We’ve got a really great Council, a really diverse Council, which I think is a good thing,” he said following his election at last week’s council meeting.
“I’m looking forward to getting out and meeting people, listening and supporting Mayor Gary Lee.”
Jones has lived in Nambucca Valley for 14 years, but holidayed here as a child.
“I’ve always thought our beautiful valley has massive tourism potential,” he said.
“There are many opportunities on the horizon with the Great Koala National Park and cultural tourism experiences with the Gumbaynggirr people, and amazing locations such as Gaagal Wanggaan National Park.
“Tourism creates a lot of jobs in our area, supporting people and small businesses all the way from Scotts Head to Valla, out to Taylors Arm and everywhere in between.
“I’d really like to help support these healthy industries, and jobs to grow in our valley.”
Mayor Lee welcomed Jones, thanking previous deputies Susan Jenvey and James Angel.
Jones has been elected to a one-year term.
