MISSABOTTI residents are delighted at the opening of Missabotti Road at Johns Bridge following a landslip that divided the valley for more than a year.

The bridge closed in May 2025 when floodwater carved out a section of Missabotti Road south of the intersection with Helliwells Road.

Though the bridge itself remained intact, 70 metres of road required repair before the section of Missabotti Road reopened to traffic on 11 August.

Nambucca Valley Council’s acting general manager, David Moloney, outlined details of construction.

“Over the period from March to June, Council’s contractor, See Civil, placed approximately 3000 m3 of rock against the embankment to stabilise it,” Mr Moloney said.

“It was a technical task due to the size of the landslip to temporarily divert the creek, allowing the embankment to be reconstructed.

“Temporary sheet piles were installed adjacent to the embankment, to create an area where works could  be undertaken while protecting the marine environment of the creek.”

The project will be finalised when fencing and a guardrail are installed.

NSW Reconstruction Authority funded the work through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements program

Missabotti resident Nelly Wormo is delighted to see the work finally completed,

“After many truckloads passing by, it’s great to see our rates at work and Missabotti locals again getting access,” she said.

“It was amazing to see the power of water and how it can cause so much damage. Now the work is done, we’re thankful we can use the bridge again.”
