I AM always disappointed when these moneygrubbing growth-mongers pedal this oxymoronic concept of ‘sustainable growth’ (‘Going up’, NOTA, 11/9/2026).
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realise that growth in a finite world is unsustainable.
Unsustainable.
The idea that Coffs Harbour’s population could increase by 34 per cent by 2050 (and likewise increase in environmental destruction) is based upon the continuation of miserably poor governance by our hopelessly misguided rag-tag bunch of conflicted politicians.
Instead, an end to population growth would lead to a more efficient and happy society – far removed from the disruptions that come from a society who’s mantra is (currently): ‘when too much destruction is barely enough’.
Moves to a stable population will need to start at a Federal level, but we’ll also need a lot more than the nonsense that we’ve been dished up at State and local level as well.
I’m not holding my breath.
