AN estimated 4000 residents and visitors attended Nambucca Valley Open Streets Festival in Macksville on Saturday.
The festival ran from 3-9pm and was the third in the Open Streets series,
Nambucca Valley Mayor Gary Lee said the event was a credit to the Nambucca Valley Youth Council.
“I was extremely proud of the young people of the Nambucca Valley Youth Council,” Mr Lee said.
“River Street in Macksville, Wallace Lane and Princess Street came alive with light and laser installations and fire shows.
“Finally, the Nambucca River was lit up with a superb display of fireworks at the end of a wonderful afternoon.”
Local youth seized the opportunity to showcase their skills.
Valley Performing Arts Centre dancers performed on the River Stage, and students from Macksville Public and Bowraville Central schools created hand-made street art.
The festival also had a sustainable environmental theme, with OzGREEN delivering a river bug discovery activity.
The council and MidWaste designed a chia house activity, using recycled cardboard to create model homes topped with living green roofs.
“I would like to thank the festival’s event manager, Joel Grimson of Good Crew, everyone who came along to support the festival, and the Macksville Ex-Services Club for providing sponsorship for Saturday’s event,” Mr Lee said.
“The festival was delivered through funding from the NSW Government, and I thank our State Government representatives for their investment in our valley.”
The council received $350,000 through the Open Streets Program over three years and will deliver one more festival in 2027.
