WITH the end of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library service last month, Nambucca Valley Council is encouraging families to sign their children up as library card-holders.
The Nambucca Heads and Macksville libraries have 44,524 books and other materials on their shelves, along with access to the Borrow Box digital platform.
“Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was a highlight for young readers,” said David Moloney, Nambucca Valley Council’s acting general manager.
“It encouraged building children’s early literacy skills.
“We would encourage Imagination Library families and all valley residents to become a member of one of our valley’s libraries. There’s a great collection of material, and each member can borrow up to 30 items on their card.”
The libraries have an extensive children’s book collection and a vast array of graphic novels and manga.
Library Services team leader Rowena Sierant said the local libraries had also expanded their Borrow Box offering this financial year, which gives residents broader access to digital resources to read, hear or watch at home.
“We’ve ramped up our Borrow Box subscription this financial year because we want our community to have easy access to digital newspapers, magazines, e-books and more,” she said.
“The Borrow Box e-press suite is now available to all library members, which includes a broad range of digital magazines and newspapers.
“We’ve also added Beamafilm, which allows them to stream a great range of quality films in English and other languages.”
The expansion of the Borrow Box suite of digital products has replaced the previously used Hoopla and Libby apps. Library members still have access to Indy Reads.
