Specialist builders invited to tender for Scotts Head Skate Park design and construction

AFTER a five-year wait, Scotts Head’s skateboarders are a step closer to getting their skate park.

However, they’ll have to wait longer for shade areas, seating and a drinking water fountain they wanted as part of the facility.

Nambucca Valley Council has now invited specialist skate park builders to tender to design and construct Scotts Head Skate and Recreation Park.

After community consultation and a feasibility study, the western-side of the Village Green in Adin Street was chosen as the best location.

The council consulted Scotts Head Kickflip Committee and other local skaters to learn their preferences for potential skate park features. They asked that shade, seating and a water fountain be included.

However, the grant is for the construction of the park only, according to the council’s Acting General Manager David Moloney.

“Potential additional amenities will be considered by Council when it assesses future grant funding opportunities from both the Australian and NSW Governments,” he stated in a council media release.

“Council’s infrastructure team hopes to be able to award the tender by the end of this year and for the successful tenderer to be able to start detailed design work early next year.”

The skate park has been on the drawing board for five years.

The council was awarded the grant to construct the skate park late last year, and completed a procurement plan earlier this year.

In a 50-50 partnership, NSW Government’s $255,578 grant was matched by council funds and community donations.
