Community donations support evacuation centre

THE Nambucca Evacuation Centre opened at the Nambucca RSL Club late on Wednesday evening 21 May 2025.

“As we all know the rain kept coming during this week and forced many residents to seek shelter,” said Adele McCollom, Red Cross Emergency Services.

A reflection of the strength of the community in the Nambucca Valley, a number of individuals and businesses made donations to the centre during Thursday and Friday.

“These were appreciated by those who were forced to leave their homes as the water kept rising,” Adele said.

Late on Friday afternoon, the managers of Woolworths at Nambucca Heads and Macksville donated gift vouchers to the Evacuation Centre for people who had been affected by floodwaters and were staying at temporary accommodation.

The gift cards can now be used at either Nambucca or Macksville Woolworths stores.

“A very big ‘thank you’ to Woolworths for this donation that will help many who are struggling at this time,” Adele said.

“It’s during times like these, that our people and our community come together.”

Adele also offered thanks to the manager of Hotel Mimamar for their support to the Red Cross at this time.
