WE often drive past places and look but don’t ‘see’.
Have you ever noticed the magnificent stand of flooded gums in the small reserve on the edge of Gogley’s Lagoon at the intersection of Camden Head Road and Scarborough Way?
This precious reserve is also home to native palms, a variety of rainforest species, and stately paperbarks.
However, weeds and garden escapees are threatening the native flora.
Members of Hastings Landcare noticed the invasion of non-natives, particularly the morning glory vine that grows up trees and can eventually smother them.
The group sought and obtained a Crown Lands license for Dunbogan Bushcare Group to restore the native habitat.
This involves carefully staged weed removal.
The group has worked on site for three weeks, with morning glory vine the main priority.
A huge amount of weeding remains to be done.
As the group has many other sites to manage it has been decided that some extra working bees are needed.
The first of these will be held on Saturday 25 July at 8.30 am.
No previous experience is needed as we have plenty of trained volunteers to assist.
Morning tea will be provided.

The group normally works on Monday mornings from 8.30 with morning tea at The Boatshed afterwards.
Also, the Laurieton United Services Club Landcare Group, which has transformed parts of our bushland along the river foreshore, is desperately short of volunteers.
This group works Friday mornings from 8.30 am, followed by morning tea provided by the club.
Landcare will have a display at the Chamber of Commerce’s Community Connection Event at LUSC from 10 am-12pm on Tuesday 4 August and a table outside Coles from 9.30 am on Friday 7 August as part of Landcare Week. Please pop in and talk to us.
