HERE on the Mid North Coast, Australians have been showing their support for the families of veterans during Legacy Week since 1942.
This year’s campaign runs from 31 August to 6 September, raising awareness and vital funds to help families who have sacrificed so much for our nation.
Across the Mid North Coast, volunteers will be at Bunnings South Kempsey, Kempsey CBD Walk Around, Kempsey South Service Centre, Kempsey Riverside Markets, Kempsey Central, Stuarts Point Supermarket, NAB Street Stall, Rocks Central Shopping Centre, Nambucca Plaza, Woolworths Nambucca, Woolworths Macksville, BP Service Centre Nambucca, Nambucca Main Street, Foodworks Wallace Street Macksville, the Rusty Iron Rally and the Bowraville Pharmacy.
They will be selling the iconic Legacy badges and bears, collecting donations and sharing the Legacy story with the community.
While the badge may be little, the impact is huge.
The funds raised during Legacy Week provide essential support such as financial aid for bills and groceries, advocacy for pension entitlements, and educational opportunities for young people in veterans’ families so they are not left behind.
“While we are not in a time of war, there are families in our community who are struggling with the loss of their loved one’s life or health because of their military service,” Legatee Wayne Mason of Mid North Coast Legacy told News Of The Area.
“It’s important that these families know they are not alone and Legacy Week is a chance for us to show them that.”
Members of the public can support Legacy Week by volunteering to sell badges and assist with events, making a donation online at support.legacy.com.au/event/legacyweek2025 or purchasing a Legacy badge or bear from a volunteer.
Community members are also encouraged to hold their own fundraising events such as morning teas, sports activities or gatherings with friends, colleagues and neighbours, and to help raise awareness by sharing Legacy Week on social media using the hashtags #LegacyWeek2025 and #BadgeWeek.
Founded in 1923, Legacy is a charity dedicated to supporting Australian families suffering after the death or injury of a loved one during or after their Defence Force service.
Today, Legacy supports more than 30,000 widow/ers, children and dependents with a disability, with the help of 3,000 volunteers nationwide.
This Legacy Week, wear your badge with pride and know that a little badge can make a big impact.
