Plan to make planning Nambucca Valley street events easier

NAMBUCCA Valley event organisers, event volunteers, and residents have been invited to have their say on how future events are delivered across the valley.

Nambucca Valley Council will use a $460,000 NSW Government Permit/Plug/Play Program grant to map its current event delivery processes, as well as learn how it can make delivering street-based events less complicated and more accessible.

Acting General Manager David Moloney said holding events was a great way to connect residents, attract tourists, and celebrate towns and villages in the valley, but conceded that getting approval could be challenging.

“It involves navigating permits, approvals, traffic management, public safety, insurance, waste management and other requirements,” he said.

“We aim to improve council’s event processes through the Permit/Plug/Play program to make event delivery easier for community groups and volunteers.”

He asked street events organisers to share their past experiences in a survey on the council’s website before it closes on Friday, 13 November.

Council has engaged a consultant to support the delivery of the project. Courtney Tune, of Alt Collective, has been contacting event organisers and community groups in the valley.

The project is expected to include the development of an event toolkit to help guide event organisers through the event delivery process.

Vibrant streets deliver cultural, social and economic benefits, Minister for Music and the Night-Time Economy, John Graham said.

“Activating them can be challenging due to the costs and complexities of approvals and temporary road closures,” he said.

“The Permit/Plug/Play program helps councils and organisers overcome these barriers, which means more free events for the community to enjoy.”
