Recovery continues at Macksville Memorial Aquatic and Fitness Centre

RECOVERY work continues at the Macksville Memorial Aquatic and Fitness Centre, which sustained significant damage in the recent floods.

The Centre has been closed for the safety of the community while assessments take place.

Council’s insurer conducted an assessment on the centre on Tuesday 3 June.

Initial electrical safety work is now underway, with a report to be conducted on the remaining electrical repair work required.

A mechanical damage report (pool pumps etc) and a structural/building report are also required.

The indoor pool was inundated by flood water and will need to be cleaned and treated due to contamination.

The large outdoor pool has been unfiltered or chlorinated since power went out at the site and is currently not suitable for use.

“Council remains committed to a transparent, staged restoration of the Macksville Memorial Aquatic and Fitness Centre,” Nambucca Valley Council said in a statement.

“Safety remains our highest priority.

“Access to the Centre has been restricted to essential personnel only due to safety concerns.

“Council continues to work with the Operator of the facility, Community Aquatics, regarding interim arrangements and support for their staff through flood assistance.”

Due to wide-spread flooding impacting the Mid North Coast, Council anticipates delays in accessing supplies and labour for the repairs, and thank the community for their patience and support.

Council will continue regular updates on the progress of the repairs through their website, social media and the Antenno app.

Residents can go to Council’s website where a dedicated page will provide updates and frequently asked questions.
