Nambucca Roosters take on Bellingen Magpies in reserves trial

Roosters Reserve Grade Coach Jeremy Burrows will see his team take to the paddock for the first time in 2026 in a trial match against the Bellingen Magpies at Coronation Park on Saturday.

SUPPORTERS of the Nambucca Roosters RLFC will get their first taste of pre-season action this weekend when the club’s reserve grade side takes on the Bellingen Magpies in a trial match at Coronation Park.

The game will kick off at 2:00pm on Saturday 14 March at the Roosters’ home ground in Nambucca Heads, with free entry for spectators and both the bar and canteen open on the day.

Roosters Reserve Grade Coach Jeremy Burrows said the trial will be an important early opportunity for the team to begin building their game plan ahead of the new season.

Burrows told News Of The Area, “I will be looking for consistency from this team in the season ahead and I am looking forward to bringing some of our younger players up into the team for their introduction to senior footy.”

The match will also allow the coaching staff to assess how the squad is shaping up and start developing the team’s structure and on-field combinations.

Conditions at Coronation Park are expected to be ideal for the trial match, with the playing surface currently in excellent condition following a period of steady rain followed by warm sunny weather that has helped the ground recover and green up.

Nambucca Roosters RLFC President Pete Bellden said the trial match also highlights the strong relationship between the Roosters and the Bellingen Magpies.

“Bello is in a rebuilding phase and we want to assist them with that as they are a great club that will always lend a hand to other clubs when needed,” he said.
“They have helped us out in the past and we want to do the same for them.”

With both teams preparing for the upcoming season, the trial promises to provide a competitive hit-out while giving supporters the chance to see local players back on the field.
