Council’s grading crew shifting focus to Taylors Arm Road

COUNCIL’S grading crew has been working to maintain South Arm Road this week.

The work, undertaken from 13-17 April, has focused on an area from the end of the sealed road up to Grants Bridge.

Next week, from 20-24 April, the focus shifts to Taylors Arm Road, from the end of the sealed road to Sheet O’Bark Road.

Following this work, the crew will move to North Macksville and maintain the unsealed section of Old Coast Road, followed by Boggy Creek Road, Valla.

Next month, the grading team plans to maintain Irvines Road, Valla.

“Council encourages motorists to expect minor travel delays when driving along these roads when the grading crew are working and asks drivers to exercise caution when travelling through a work zone,” council said in a statement.

Around 10 unsealed roads were maintained over last month in Eungai, Utungun, Gumma, Missabotti and Congarinni.

The Nambucca Valley has a large hinterland and many rural valleys, connected by an unsealed road network spanning about 300 kilometres.

Nambucca Valley Council General Manager Bede Spannagle said grading and repairing local gravel roads was an important part of Council’s infrastructure maintenance plan.

“Council delivers its unsealed rural road maintenance program by employing a dedicated five-personnel grading team,” he said.

“The crew and their grader, tip truck and trailer, back hoe and water cart, work together virtually all year round, maintaining by priority our unsealed road network.”

When the grading crew maintains unsealed roads, they do the following tasks:

  • Grade the road surface
  • Clear stormwater pipes of debris
  • Remove unstable material from embankments.

If you wish to let Council know about the condition of an unsealed road, the best way to do it is to download the free mobile phone app, Antenno.

Through Antenno, you can save the places you care about and that you wish to receive Council notifications about.

You can also take a photo of a section of unsealed road, upload it, and submit it to Council via the app. Alternatively, you can call Council on 6568 2555.
