SATURDAY was the start of the men’s Championships, sponsored by Goodyear Autocare, which saw thirteen players hit the ground running with net scores better than par.
In A Grade Mike Simpson and Dylan Baker playing off handicaps of 4 and 10 respectively lead the way with net 69’s.
Glen, Dylan’s father, one shot back on net 70, playing off a +4 handicap meaning he has to have four birdies before achieving a net par round.
In B grade Kai (handicap and age 13) another of the Baker family leads with a net 69 two strokes ahead of Jeff Gore on net 77.
In C Grade Ron McDonald burnt the course with a net 64 followed by Peter Joyce net 66, scores that will take some catching over the next three rounds of the championship.
Best gross scores of the day were, A grade Glen Baker 66 and Mike Simpson 73, In B grade Kai Baker 82 leads Steve Hoskins on 84. Although it is a men’s Championship the ladies playing in the Saturday competition had notable gross scores with Chloe Baker 78 and Jo Montague 79.
Results for the Saturday competition saw Ron McDonald finish ahead of runner up Peter Joyce with second and third runners up ladies,Jo Montague and Chloe Baker equal on net 68 playing off 13 and 10 respectively.
The ladies Championship began on Tuesday with Nikki Laird showing the way two shots ahead of Ms consistency Jo Montague. The daily competition was won by Desma Hughes with Kerrie Jackson runner up.
It was another good week for the ladies in the mid week competition. Bec Spears finished with a net 41 points ahead of runner up Jess Lambert on 40.
