Nambucca Ladies Finish No. 2 in the State

The Nambucca bowlers performed exceptionally in the State Pennant Playoffs.

A WEEK to remember for the Nambucca Heads Women’s Bowling Club.

The Nambucca Heads Women’s Bowling Club ladies have returned home as the No. 2 Grade 2 Pennant team in the state, following an outstanding campaign at the State Pennant Playoffs.

Representing Nambucca Heads were two strong teams.

Team 1 consisted of Kim Porter, Karen Liddell, Deb Mann and Elaine Fleming, while Team 2 comprised Nerida Blackford, Marilyn Montgomery, Sandra Seckold and Teresa Meehan.

Day One saw Nambucca take on Munmorah in the morning and Glenbrook in the afternoon. Both matches were closely contested, but the Nambucca ladies showed great determination to come away with wins, defeating Munmorah 39–31 and Glenbrook 42–35.

The final round game on the morning of Day Two was against Pittwater.

Once again, it was a hard-fought battle, with Nambucca eventually securing a 46–34 victory and advancing to the afternoon quarter-final against West Dubbo.

The quarter-final was another closely fought encounter, but Nambucca continued its winning run, defeating West Dubbo 44–33 to book a place in the semi-final.

Thursday morning brought a showdown with Kurri Kurri for a place in the State Final.

The Nambucca ladies produced some excellent bowls under pressure and came away with a convincing 49–25 victory, securing their place in the final.

The afternoon brought the biggest challenge of the week, with Nambucca facing a strong Harrington side in the State Final.

Despite their best efforts, the Nambucca ladies were unable to overcome Harrington, going down 63–23.

While the final result was disappointing, finishing second in the state is an outstanding achievement and one the ladies can be extremely proud of.

Throughout the playoffs they displayed skill, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship, proudly representing Nambucca Heads and Club Nambucca.

The team extended a special thank you to Mark Blackford, who provided coaching and management throughout the playoffs.

His support, guidance and encouragement were greatly appreciated.

Thanks also go to Sharon Watts, who stepped up as the team’s “Super Sub” and kept everyone looked after throughout the week, and to Peter Meehan, who enthusiastically took on the role of the team’s cheer squad.

The achievement is a wonderful reward for the ladies’ hard work and commitment throughout the pennant season.
