BOWRAVILLE Golf Club welcomed a strong field on Saturday, 8 August, as players teed off for the first round of the 2026 Championships under a crisp, sunny morning sky.
There was plenty of championship focus in the air, along with the occasional deep breath, careful practice swing and hopeful look down the fairway.
With nerves making an early appearance for some, the club’s players still produced a competitive and good-spirited opening round.
Mike Oldham handled the occasion best on the day, posting an excellent 70 nett, with Andrew Blair close behind on a solid 73 nett keeping the pressure on and ensuring the championship race is already shaping as one to watch.
Club members enjoyed the morning’s play, with the fine weather matched by the respectful rivalry and good humour that make championship golf at Bowraville such a highlight on the calendar.
The Championships will continue over the coming rounds, and if Saturday’s opener is any guide, players may need steady hands, straight drives and perhaps a quiet word with the golfing gods before stepping onto the first tee.
