CHRIS KNIGHT: Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course report

WAS it The Rapture at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course on Saturday as two C graders romped and stomped like a young Russell Crowe?

Thirty-five-marker Rocco Kinnear had 97 off the stick and birdied the par five 4th for a stonking 43 points in the Nambucca Smash Repairs medley stableford.

That presented the win in Div 2 but only on countback from Ray Guiana (27), as the one-time firefighter posted six pars and a bird on the 10th.

Tiffany Paul (20) has been working hard at her game and shone with 40 points to sweep Div 1, one clear of the ultra-consistent Peter Farrell (6).

Paul had six pars for an Agent Maxwell Smart gross, while Farrell carded a cheeky 72 off the bat, including birds on 2 and 13.

Gregory Lucas, Dan Wren, Mark Luttrell and Chris Knight all twinkled with 39 points, the latter starting faster than a guinea pig romance with a birdie-par-birdie opener before the mediocrity kicked in.

Bowra-born legend Paul Dyer holed a lengthy on the first for the Ecomist prize pack and pins went to Ben Venner on 5, Chris Lucas on 7, Dewayne Laverty on 8 and Simon Day on 15. Guiana boxed a mint day with the Pizza This Pizza That yummo on the 13th and Colin Dunne banked the $75 Pro Pin on the last.

Henny Oldenhove (18) and Kerrie Eichorn (11) sparkled with 37 points in the female stableford on Wednesday, 7 October.

Oldenhove sizzled home parring three of the last four with 37 points to win on countback in Div 1 from Eichorn who birdied the third and punched out a conga-line of pars barring strange happenings on 15.

Lillian Lukins (35) found top gear with 41 points to smash Div 2, four clear of Marilyn McNally (29).

A par on the seventh highlighted Lukins’ steady round while Bowraville’s McNally recovered from an edgy start with two pars and a bird on 15.

Di O’Leary and Donna Easy jagged the pins on five, Deidre Fletcher on 13 and Liz Hobday on the last for a $39 collect.

Young fella Odin Jolly (41) is clearly enjoying golf during the school holidays, posting the Everest score of the day in the Nambucca Smash Repairs stableford on Thursday 8 October.

Odin parred the 5th, 13th and 18th – clearly cherishes the par threes – for 44 spanking points to salute in Div 2, four clear of the resurgent Andy Bagust (28).

Dave ‘back foot shuffler’ Mattacott (18) was revved in for the W in Div 1 with an excellent 39 points, one ahead of playing partner Geoff McCann (18).

Mattacott’s bird-par finish was telling after McCann birdied the 6th and stormed home in a 42 gross round the back.

Eddy Penrose drained the longest putt on the first and NTP card scribblers were Colin Dunne on 5, Michael Jolly on 7, Brad Fortescue on 8 and Ross Morpuss on 15. Stuey Johnston collected the $65 Pro Pin and Rob Coneybeare diced the pizza on 13.

The Mid North Coast Veterans played a single stableford at The Island on Tuesday, 6 October when Social Golf Australia’s (SGA) Shadley Fataar (25) had the most points of the day with 40 to win Div 2 from Bowraville’s Terry Noble (22) on 39.

Nambucca’s Stephen McNeil (17) carded 38 points for the Div 1 dance of dominance on countback from Bowra’s Eliza McNally (15).

The Walls sponsored the Island Sunday fourball best ball on 11 October which was won by the Ziebells – Tricia and Michael – with a bristling 46 points, two clear of runners-up Henny Oldenhove and Urpo Ylinen.

Flagstick huggers were Coral McCann and Thomas Wattison on 5, Greg Smith on 13 and Di O’Leary and Phil Woodgate on 18.

Catchya on The Island, where it’s Championship week and a time to shine and nowhere to hide. Bring your A game, or if in another grade, the appropriate letter.
