NAMBUCCA Country Music Club organisers have made the difficult decision to cease operations as a not-for-profit and the organisation has moved under the banner of the Macksville Ex-Services Club (MESC).
Outgoing president Kerri Garvie and long-serving club stalwart June Pettiford resigned from their positions and chose not to stand for re-election at the club’s annual general meeting on August 30.
There were no other nominees for the roles.
Ms Garvie explained the changes that followed on the club’s Facebook page.
“As you all may know … our AGM was held on Sunday 30th August. It was a rather important meeting as both myself and June Pettiford had resigned and were not standing for re-election,” Ms Garvie wrote.
“[Nobody] came forward and either nominated someone else or put their hand up to do it.
“ …[W]e had an inkling this would be the case so we approached the Macksville Ex-Services Club to see, if nobody stood up to take over [the roles], would they be prepared to take it over and run it, not as the NFP that it is now, but under the MESC banner.
“They did not want to see the event close and were more than happy to do it.”
Ms Garvie thanked the club for its decision.
During the past year the Nambucca Country Music Club has held its Christmas event, where it donated $500 to Radio Nambucca and $500 to the Nambucca Valley Cancer Support Group; held its annual Easter event, where it donated $1500 to the Nambucca Heads SLSC Nippers; and welcomed artists from the Macksville Music Muster to come along and join their group.
Funds held by the Nambucca Valley Country Music Club have been dispersed into the community, and benefited Radio Nambucca, 2airfm, Nambucca Valley Cancer Support Group, Nambucca Dialysis, and the MESC Grants and Funding account.
Ms Garvie said she wanted to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone that had anything to do with the club and everyone that came along and enjoyed the music.
“It is the end of an era,” she said.
“A huge congratulations to June Pettiford on her time in the committee roles over the last 12-13 years.
“Thank you to Shirley Duffy & Shirley N Victor Rudder for helping every month.
“Thank you to the band for always doing an awesome job (love you guys).”
Ms Garvie made special mention of the contributions of Earl Kyle – the ‘sound man’ and one of the main singers/band member for many years.
“Thank you for all your years at the Club,” Ms Garvie said. “We wish Earl Kyle a speedy recovery and all the best for the future.”
Ms Garvie went on to say that MESC had requested that some people put their hands up to help on the 100 Club table each month as this was an event that would require the club to hire more staff and that would not be a viable option.
“It may be discontinued,” Ms Garvie said.

“I would like to finish this post saying it was a great near three years being the president. I loved seeing you all every month I was there, and I will definitely be back every couple of months, or when time permits.
“Thank you to all that attended and enjoyed our events every month and finally wishing the Macksville Ex-Services Club all the best in the future.”
