MACKSVILLE District Hospital has received more than $110,000 in the past 12 months thanks to the volunteers of the BowraMacksville United Hospital Auxiliary (UHA).
The hospital’s Acting Deputy Director of Nursing Sherene Fitzjohn attended the UHA branch’s annual general meeting highlighting the hard work, dedication and generosity of volunteers.
“We can’t thank you enough. The UHA Café is the heart of our hospital, a place of connection and comfort for our staff, visitors and patients alike,” said Ms Fitzjohn.
“Thank you for the time, laughs, coffees, company and countless little things you do. From raising funds to buying items that help people in our community, your kindness ripples far into the community,” she said.
The UHA’s incredible fundraising efforts resulted in a range of equipment being donated including a medical and trauma bed, a chest compression system and a telescope.
During the Annual General Meeting, Lorraine Edmondson was re-elected as President, Dee Hunter returned as Treasurer, Karen Reinten was elected as Secretary after the resignation of Susan Hedgecoe, the previous long serving Secretary, Heather Edwards returned as Membership Secretary and Jan Tinson was elected Vice-President. Patron Janine Reid and Auditor Geoff Minett also agreed to continue their honorary roles supporting the UHA branch.
President Lorraine thanked all the members in the auxiliary who worked tirelessly in the café over the past 12 months.
“Many cuppas served and plenty of hard work have funded much of the equipment, but we have also received many comments on the value of the café in the hospital and the excellent service provided. The hospital staff remain our biggest customer source followed by visitors and families of patients.”
There were also other fundraising efforts including a trivia night at the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club, raffles at plays by the Valley Performers and donations,” Ms Edmondson said.
With 42 members, 32 working in the UHA Café, the branch is always looking for new volunteers.
