Council calls for community voices to guide Nambucca Heads CBD vision

DEVELOPING a collaborative plan to revitalise the Nambucca Heads central business district (CBD) has long been a priority for both Council and the community.

At its Ordinary Meeting on 22 April, councillors resolved to launch an expression of interest process for a community reference group to guide the development of a Nambucca Heads Town Centre Master Plan.

“Nambucca Heads is a great coastal town, with a winding commercial strip, anchored by many long-term businesses, cafes and restaurants,” said Nambucca Valley Council Acting General Manager David Moloney.

“We want to build on these positives by putting into place a comprehensive framework to set out a vision and a strategic direction shaping land use, connectivity and public domain outcomes in the town centre.

“It will respond to community priorities and better define a long-term direction for the important CBD.

Council is seeking to appoint six community members to the group, including two local residents with relevant experience in urban design and planning, two business owner representatives, and two commercial property owner representatives.

The group will also include three Council representatives – councillors James Angel, Tamara McWilliam and Mayor Gary Lee (chairperson).

While the community reference group will not have a decision-making function, it will work closely with Council staff and project consultants to provide input and feedback throughout the planning process.

Broader community input will also be encouraged, with residents from Nambucca Heads and surrounding areas to be given further opportunities to contribute during later stages of consultation.

Community members interested in joining the reference group are encouraged to submit an expression of interest via the Council’s website by 5pm on Friday 8 May 2026.
