THE Bowraville Theatre Singers are preparing to delight audiences with their latest concert, Every Song’s A Winner.
Under the direction of nationally and internationally acclaimed choral composer and conductor Paul Jarman of Valla, the choir has enjoyed remarkable success, with its last three concerts selling out.
The concert will be staged at the historic Bowraville Theatre on Saturday, 21 and Sunday, 22 November, with both performances commencing at 2pm.
Featuring more than 50 singers from across the Nambucca Valley and surrounding districts, the choir will present a diverse musical program celebrating some of the world’s most loved songs.
Audiences can expect music spanning the centuries, from Mozart and Handel to The Beatles, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Queen and Gershwin, alongside favourites from film and musical theatre.
The concert promises beautiful harmonies, imaginative arrangements and a few surprises characteristic of Paul Jarman’s musical direction.
Bowraville Theatre Singers president Gary Rumble said the choir’s diverse membership contributes to its unique character.
“We have some very experienced and musically literate choir members, graduates of the Conservatorium and people who have sung in high-profile choirs,” Rumble said.
“But we also have some members who have never sung in a choir before joining, but bring enthusiasm, a love of singing and a willingness to learn.
“Our Tuesday evening practices in the Nambucca Heads Uniting Church Hall have lots of energy and laughter. We keep each other young.”
The choir, which has been entertaining local audiences for more than 20 years, has been under Jarman’s direction for the past two years.
Recent sell-out productions have included Fire and Rain, We Are Many and June’s Harp Song, featuring Melbourne harpist and vocalist Claire Patti.
Joining the singers once again will be accomplished accompanist Lesa Scully, leader of the University of Newcastle Conservatorium Arts Orchestra.
In a first for the choir, Paul Jarman will also step away from the conductor’s podium to join the baritone section for one number.
For Gary Rumble, the choir’s musical achievements have been particularly rewarding.
“For me it is deeply moving to hear the glorious sound that we achieve under Paul’s direction,” he added.
The choir’s growing reputation will also see it collaborate with the Bellingen Youth Orchestra in December and participate in Hobart’s Festival of Voices in 2027.
With another enthusiastic audience response anticipated, Rumble encouraged music lovers to secure their seats early.
“Our last three concerts have been sold out.”
Tickets are $30 and available through tickethost.com.
