Signs of the times set for makeover

A DRIVE around the Nambucca Valley can feel like a trip down memory lane as road signs reflecting the trends and materials of decades past flit past car windows.

That will soon change, as Nambucca Valley Council (NVC) works to bring consistency to the area’s signage and move its style into the 21st century.

NVC’s manager of economic development and tourism, Jan Rooney, said “signage and wayfinding” were important to residents and visitors alike.

“Good signage helps people feel welcome, navigate safely and discover more of what our communities have to offer,” she said.

A design and architecture consultant has been enlisted for the project, which has been labelled Council’s Signage and Wayfinding Strategy.

Community members are invited to put forward their opinions at a drop-in session at Nambucca Community & Arts Centre next Thursday, 13 August, from 12.30pm until 5:30pm.

Council hopes people will share local insights, identify what is working well, and where improvements may be needed.

Council said that feedback gathered throughout the consultation process would help shape a strategy that supported safe and positive journeys, promoted local destinations and created a consistent and recognisable signage experience across the Nambucca Valley.

This drop-in session will also include information about the Nambucca Heads Town Centre Master Plan project.

More community drop-in sessions will be held in the future and an online survey is planned as the project progresses.
