AS our regional communities get into gear for a productive, supportive and successful 2026, “collaboration” is emerging as the keyword for the season to come.

Here’s a prime example.

Stuarts Point and District Little Athletics organiser Samantha Bonanno, recently issued this call out: “We need helpers to assist the oval committee do some line marking on Saturday 31 January at 8am for about 4-5 hours, as many of us will be away at Regionals that weekend.”

As a member of the Stuarts Point Men’s Shed and the secretary for the Scotts Head Oval Committee, George Driussi answered the call.

He told News Of The Area that, “We at Stuarts Point Men’s Shed are going to be marking out the Scotts Head field track, providing line marking paint and survey markers.”

“It’s always a plus to [give] young children a positive start.”

The club is hoping to have the markings there all the time, as it’s very difficult to train without them.

“George has been an amazing help, and also James Eather for helping with the surveying,” Samantha said.

“It’s for our competition Friday nights for the kids to be able to see where they are running and so it’s easier for us to mark the distance.

“I’ve been marking the distances with a measuring wheel which isn’t the greatest.”

The local team has around 15 athletes competing in Regionals on the Gold Coast from 31 January – 1 February, with hopes of qualifications for State representation.

The season will continue from Friday 6 February and will run till the presentations at the end of March.
