VOLUNTEERS from across the Nambucca Valley gathered at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club on Friday 22 May for a special community lunch.
Hosted by Nambucca Valley Council, it was held to recognise and celebrate their contribution to the region.
The event brought together many of the valley’s volunteers who help care for sports fields, community halls, museums, libraries, the Visitor Information Centre and other important community spaces.
Cr Lee thanked volunteers for the years of dedication they have given to the community.
“It’s a privilege to be able to get together during this National Volunteer Week; everyone in the room has dedicated years of service to our community,” he said.
“Every day, you give the value we all appreciate.
“I want to thank you all for your dedication, generosity and community spirit.”
Council currently has around 250 volunteers supporting the administration of public facilities and community services through Section 355 committees operating under the Local Government Act 1993.
One of those committees is Mary Boulton’s Pioneer Cottage and Museum.
Long-time volunteer Leanne Welsh said the event provided a valuable opportunity for volunteers to connect and share experiences.
“I really enjoyed seeing the volunteers from the Nambucca Headland Museum and from the Visitor Information Centre, as I could talk to them about how many people they are getting through and what experiences they are offering,” she said.
“Thank you to the Council for putting the lunch on and for the Councillors who attended to catch up with us.”
National Volunteer Week ran from Monday 18 May to Sunday 24 May 2026, with this year’s theme being “Your Year to Volunteer”.
The NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards are currently open for applications, with seven categories including Young Volunteer of the Year and Senior Volunteer of the Year.
More information about the awards and eligibility criteria can be found at Volunteering Australia.
