MONDAYS are generally a quiet day in and around Stuarts Point, yet on Monday 22 June, under brilliant sunshine, many supporters rolled up to get involved in the Stuarts Point Friendly Grocer Charity Bowls Day, held at the Workers Club.
The social morning of bowls, with participants displaying an interesting variety of prowess, was followed by a free barbeque lunch, then a somewhat impromptu hit of golf with no particular victor to mention.
Then, with all attendees retreating indoor, a calcutta was arranged for the much anticipated upcoming mud crab race, which proved to be a highlight of the afternoon.
To complete the day’s events an impressive collection of donated goods were displayed for auction with strong bidding from all corners.
Proceeds from the day are destined to support local entities including junior cricket, the Coleman-Smith awards, and the recently formed youth centre, Point To The Future.
Representatives of the Stuarts Point Workers and Recreation Club were thrilled with the day.
“We had a big weekend at the club with our president Lin Walker presenting $10,000 to The Cancer Council on Friday night, the result of The Biggest Morning Tea and Charity Raffles,” a spokesperson said.
“Then on Monday there was the success of the Stuarts Point Friendly Grocer Charity Bowls Day with over $10,000 raised for local charities.
“The final amount and initial beneficiaries will be announced soon. Thank you to everyone who helped out and contributed to both these great causes.”
