AUTHOR Meredith Jaffe recently visited Nambucca Heads Library to share the process behind her best-selling novel with eager book-lovers who packed into the youth space for the talk.
Ms Jaffe, the author of The Dressmakers of Yarrandarrah Prison, shared about writing her cosy drama set in the suburb of Pretty Point.
“The Dressmakers of Yarrandarrah Prison was such fun to write, I really connected with the
book’s main character, Delia Watson,” she said.
“Delia had been, for more than 30 years, the perfect rock and engine room behind her husband, Charlie’s, glittering music career.
“But when a cryptic letter arrives from a stranger while Delia is cat-sitting, she snaps.”
Suspecting her husband has lied about knowing nothing about the letter, Delia sets off to solve a sordid mystery lurking beneath Pretty Point’s superficial charms.
“Through Delia, I explored the themes of creativity, second chances and the importance some unexpected friendships can bring,” Ms Jaffe said.
Nambucca Libraries Team Leader, Rowena Sierant, said the author’s talk on Wednesday 9 September was a great success, and it was the style of event she would like to do more of as it provided depth to some of the books sitting on the library’s shelves.
“The youth area of the Nambucca Heads Library and the southern end of the Macksville Library are spacious and are perfect for author talks,” Ms Sierant said.
“The 25 or so attendees to Meredith’s talk loved it, and this type of event is something I would like to do more of.
“Connecting with authors is quite a social affair – I met Meredith on Instagram for example – so if any library members have a chance or online meeting with a great author, please let them know we would be keen to have them present an author’s talk here at one of our Nambucca Valley Libraries.”

- Friday 18 September: Little Lego Lovers, from 3pm, at Nambucca Heads Library
- Thursday 24 September: Legal education session – planning ahead – covering topics
such as wills, enduring guardianship, power of attorney, prevention of abuse and scams.
This session will start at Macksville Library from midday until 1.30pm, followed by
Nambucca Library from 2.30-4pm.
- Thursday 24 September: Little Lego Lovers, from 3pm, at Macksville Library
- Friday 25 September: Stitch and Chat, from 10am, at Macksville Library.
