MID North Coast Legacy has thanked the Nambucca Valley and Kempsey communities for getting behind the recent Legacy Week 2026, with volunteers raising funds and awareness for local veteran families.
Legacy Week is the organisation’s annual fundraising campaign, with volunteers selling Legacy badges, pens, keyrings, teddy bears and other merchandise throughout the region.
For Mid North Coast Legacy, which services the Nambucca and Kempsey shires, the support is helping provide ongoing assistance to 126 local beneficiaries.
Office Manager Belinda Smith said the organisation was grateful to the volunteers who gave their time during the week – and to the community for donating and purchasing items.
“I am humbled by what our volunteers do for our local beneficiaries,” Ms Smith said.
A highlight of the campaign was a fundraising barbecue at Kempsey Bunnings, where Legatees and volunteers from the two shires took advantage of the fine weather to raise additional funds.
“We are sincerely grateful to everyone who donated, volunteered or helped raise awareness during the week,” Legacy President Legatee, Debra McKellar said.
“The funds raised will help Legacy provide personalised financial, social and emotional support to local widows and widowers, children and dependants with disabilities whose families have been affected by Defence Force service.”
Ms McKellar also acknowledged the local businesses across the Nambucca Valley and Kempsey shires that allowed Legacy volunteers to fundraise at their premises.
Legacy was established in 1923 by returned servicemen who made a promise to look after the families of their mates who did not return from war.
That promise continues today, with Legacy volunteers supporting veteran families across Australia.
While Legacy Week provides an important annual fundraising boost, the organisation’s local volunteers continue to support beneficiaries throughout the year.
