RISING athlete Lilly Darlington, 11, has again received funding through the Coleman-Smith Foundation, which provides financial support to talented young sportspeople in the Stuarts Point and Eungai areas.
Having received funds from the Foundation in the past, Lilly’s ongoing achievements have made her a worthy recipient once more.
Foundation Chairperson Nicky Smith elaborated at an award night on Friday, 17 April at the Stuarts Point Workers Recreation & Bowls Club.
“Lilly, who is only 11-years-old, participates in a range of athletic disciplines including running, long jump, high jump and more recently hurdles.
“We funded Lilly last round in October, and she has continued achieving milestones since then.”
At the NSW Athletics Regional Championships, Lilly placed first or second in all five of her events, achieving two personal bests.
She took first for her age division in long jump and second in the 80m hurdles, 200m sprint, 400m sprint and high jump, qualifying in all events for state championships at Olympic Park, Sydney in late March.
“Lilly placed fourth in the state in the 400m, winning her heat and missed out on a medal by just 0.10 of a second,” Nicky said.
“In all but one event she achieved personal bests. Such amazing results at such a big event.”
