THE Lions Clubs of Macksville and Nambucca Heads have joined forces with Action Church to deliver more than 100 Christmas food hampers to residents from South West Rocks to Coffs Harbour.
The hampers, filled with essentials and festive treats, are intended for people facing a difficult Christmas such as those experiencing homelessness, single parents struggling to make ends meet, elderly residents with mobility issues, and families who find little left for food after paying rent and bills.
Thanks to monetary donations, support from the Food Bank, and generous contributions from local residents, the team has been able to gather an uplifting array of supplies.
Gifts have also been included in many hampers, lovingly collected by the team at the Nambucca Plaza Pharmacy.
The Macksville Hotel’s toy drive has added even more joy to the packages, ensuring children won’t be left out this festive season.
“Getting the items for these hampers has been a real community effort,” said Moira Hodgekiss from Action Church at Macksville.
“So many people just wanted to help.”
Lorraine Hemsworth of Macksville Lions added, “Our members have been putting together women’s packs in their own homes to include in the hampers.”
Grahame Beatton of the Lions Club of Nambucca Heads highlighted just how critical this initiative is.
“What many in the community don’t realise is that there are people in our district in significant difficulty with some even living in their cars,” he said.
“These are some of the people who will be receiving a hamper.”
