Stuarts Point Eungai secure second grade grand final win

THE Stuarts Point Eungai Cricket Club (SPECC) secured an inspired victory over Nulla Cricket Club in the Macleay Valley Cricket Association second grade grand final on 7 March at South Kempsey.

It was a historic moment, being the first grand final appearance for the club in almost a decade.

Club spokesperson Mika Jeffery said the victory was the fitting end to a “cracking season”.

“We haven’t won a premiership since 2016/2017, so to go out this year and only lose two games all season and win the second grade title is phenomenal.”

Mika said youth played a key role in the season’s success.

“We were able to get some young gun juniors into the side throughout the season,” she said.

“Samuel Smith, Xavier Jeffery and Lachlan Keighran all played alongside their dads, which is what our club is about.

“All three boys, ranging from 10–12-years-old, took their first senior wickets.”

The season’s end also saw accolades for several Stuarts Point Eungai stars.

Steve Moorcroft took out the Macleay Valley Cricket Association (MVCA) second grade awards for best batter and best all-rounder, while Zach Martin took out the bowling award.

In another win for the club, junior cricket also returned in the 2025/26 season.

Due to the level of interest, two junior sides were fielded.

“Without the juniors coming through, cricket will fade out,” Mika said.

“We are so excited about what’s to come next season.
