GEOFF McCann is not that we know of a very naughty boy but his ball did take on Messiah qualities at the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course on Saturday.
Leaning into a heady breeze on the par 3 eighth, his metal wood tee shot skipped into the stony ground before the nearby pond, ricocheted barely over said water, and took the slip-lane up the cart path to finish 5 metres short of the green. Up and down for a regulation par in the land of the lucky.
While he and club president Geoff Harris won the Keno in their match, honours went to visitor Kevin Waters from Kooinda Waters in Wyong in the TNT Automotive medley par which doubled as the fourth qualifying round for the Nambucca Skins sponsored by Chris Knight, who came stone motherless with minus 13.
Ridge (38 handicap) carded an astonishing plus 10 to take Div 2 from local John Buganey (22) on plus 3.
On a soggy but well playable track, Dan Wassens (13) had plus 4 to head home Simon Day (13) on plus 2.
John Morgan nailed the nearest the pin on 5, Andy Mackinnon on 7, Andrew Cuthbertson on 8 and Stephen McNeil on 15. Jai Wassens who looks like he needs a good feed will get same after hitting it oh so close to a difficult flag on 13 courtesy of Steve Ward’s Pizza This Pizza That.
Thomas Wattison pocketed the $70 Pro Pin on the last.
TNT Automotive was again the bringer of generosity as sponsor of the medley stableford on Thursday 21 May.
The event went down to countbacks in Div 1 and 2.
Paul Ryan (16) trumped Wattison in the top tier with 37 points and Louis Shields (24) got the better of Macksville’s Grant Ellis (19) in Div 2.
Shields’ round included unspeakables on 6 and 7, a birdie on 8 and pars on 5, 10, 14, 17 and the last.
Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s comps were washed out in the same week the club unveiled some out-of-the-weather activities in the way of a flash new pool table and a sit-down games arcade console (apparently featuring a zillion games including Space Invaders. If you know, you know, probably a Boomer and thankful for budget grandfathering).
