Kerbing placed on first internal road of Valla Urban Growth Area

A SPECIALISED kerbing machine has been on site at Stage One of the Valla Urban Growth Area this week, laying 110 metres of kerb along the first internal road.

The kerbing machine was supplied by AJ Civil Project’s subcontractor, Coffs Kerb & Gutter.

Nambucca Valley Mayor Gary Lee said seeing structural elements placed on the road was a sure fire sign the Stage One site was nearing completion.

“Kerbing is the last step here at Buuluga Road before asphalt can be placed in May,” he said.

“From there, there are a few construction steps required on the eastern side of the motorway, footpaths to be constructed, but all of the critical construction elements will be soon completed.”

Nambucca Valley Council Director Engineering Services, David Moloney, said when Coffs Kerb & Gutter has finished the kerb, it will total about 570 metres.

“So far Buuluga Road has had 3,500 tonnes of road base placed on it ready for the approximate 4,200 square metres of asphalt to come once kerbing is completed,” he said.

“At the same time, AJ Civil Projects are working on the construction of the sewer pump station located near the old Boggy Creek Road.

“The full scope of works is scheduled to be completed by about Quarter 4 this year.

“It’s great to be at this point of reaching the end of construction and having used the expertise of so many great local contractors: AJ Civil Projects, Ledonne Constructions, Blue Dog Earthmoving, Northwest Power, A C Testing Services, among others.”

Despite the progress, Mayor Lee said more investment is required to reach the project’s long term goals.

“While it’s excellent to see construction work has kept up with the program here, the industrial precinct within the subdivision, we need further investment from the Federal and State Governments if we are going to be able to open up its residential land and help to ease the local housing crisis,” he said.

VUGA Stage One has been delivered through $11.2 million in funding from the Australian and NSW governments and a $17 million investment from Council.

Buuluga Road (a Gumbaynggirr name which means Black Myrtle) is the proposed name for the new road in the industrial estate, which the community can now have its say on.
